The Holland Modular Railroad Club of Holland Michigan, has been promoting the family hobby of model railroading since 1994, when a sign-up sheet at a local hobby store brought us together.

HMRC has participated in local train events, such as The Great American Train Show, Tulip City Train Show, Kalamazoo Historical Society Show, Grand Rapids Home School, etc. We also helped out in various fund raisers as the Glen School District, American Red Cross, South Haven's Art Center, and others. As the Holland Modular Railroad Club has no permanent layout, the only way for members to run trains as a group is to bring their modular tables together with the club-owned corner and yard modules. This combination of both personal and club modular pieces, gives us variety of scenes in our completed layout. The club has created layouts from 12' x 16' to 32' x 40', with 12' x 36' as average. We have 2 continuous loops of track, plus an alternate partial loop as an extension of the yard. The October 2006 show in Kalamazoo was the beginning of running multiple trains on the same track using DCC (Digital Command Control). For a while we would bring the old DC system as backup, but now we are pure DCC on the main lines. Our local track is still switchable from DCC to DC at the yard panel for an automated train, or doodlebug, for back-and-forth running. Membership dues are the $25.00 per year. All the funds generated by the club are used to add further details to the existing club-owned modules or, to increase the quality of operations. Members are not required to have a module, home layout, or a DCC equipped locomotive. Club functions are not limited to members only. Spouses and children of members have been very active in supporting club functions, as well as attending the numerous potluck gatherings, pool parties, and other events. |
